Inside the MH

As you can see we stripped it clean to start over, add insulation, drywall and all new electric--the dates on the camera are all wrong but we did most of this in the month of July 2010

We still have some things to do in the kitchen--I have some new photos as the microwave installed over the stove and all the trim finished.

Hi! I am SO hoping that you will see this and respond. I'm in Vermont and we are about to close (end of this month, Sept. 2011), and while it's in a lot better condition than what you're taking on, we will have much to do.
I'm especially interested in how you put all your heating up in the mobile home - and I have to go back and read that blog post better, because it probably also means that you had to bring your water pipes up as well?
There's definitely not much out there, but I intend to change that with a blog of my own, and would love to exchange ideas with you if you are open to that!
Thanks for posting all the photos as well; it's really helpful to see what others are doing as well as read about it.

Can you use real wood to frame inside the window seal? stupid question i'm sure, but in my mh, it looks like paper and is actually coming off, I know my dear late father had a double wide, he replaced all the window's after a fire, but he also had real wood put around all the window's, and added baseboards and trim to the window's and floor's i'd like to do that, and maybe even some nice crown molding.
I'm amazed at how expensive mh are, but yet made so very cheap, with plastic everything, paper everything, and cheap everything.. i'm looking forward to more post from you, and I hope to find other blogger's doing the same thing and get ideals from yall.

Melissa and Brian, fabulous work. Please, please don't stop documenting what you have done, particularly windows and heating. How does one properly frame out a MH window and use an off the shelf one? I am doing mine by myself so all guidance is much appreciated.

I will try to answer all with this post. Gina not sure what you are asking about, unless it is the metal roof of the mobile home?
Dedou--Water lines I addressed in the latest blogs. We ran them inside the MH. Heat well we had a vent less lp heater but it has never been turned on, we got a electric heater with a therostate for $ 35 at Lowes, put it in bathroom set at 70 and it drove you out of the house. All electric mh bill run less than $75 a month,in rental will add baseboard heaters. We insulated so much without heat on at 20 degrees it stays warm @65,the electric went out with my dd was at our home during Christmas break for 5 days and stayed 65 without heat.
Denise Prater--Yes real wood, cost is not as much as you might think,as you can see we replaced everything and the cost was not much, under 300 for the 2 x4 to replace all the walls.PS: No question is a stupid question, yes for the price of the new MH you can build one made stronger than a house for half price all it takes is some building experiance and the internet:)
Merrily row--The internet can help with great instructions. we replaced with treated lumber due to all windows were rotten around windows. Basically cut inside to see if you have any electric wires, measure window add for size of 2x4 frame and cut out, frame around, add window, caulk, insulate, add trim inside/outside. But do it with 2 people as you will work inside and out at the same time.
How I answered everything,good luck!!
